DO YOU PLAY BASKETBALL?

TITLE OF THE UNIT: Do you play basketball?.

LEVEL: 1º E.S.O.

SUBJECT: Physical Education

INTRODUCTION: In this unit, we are goingo to Know the main rules, techniques and tactics of



a  collective sport called "Basketball". Also, we'll teach our students how to practice it in order



to give them the posibility to have a healthy lifestyle, doing sports activities at the same time



as a sports knowledge based on their own experiences.





LEARNING OUTCOMES:




- To know the basic rules ir order to use it in a real context.



- To know and practice the main techniques and tactics that you need to play.



- To respect rules, teammates and adversaries.


TASKS:

1. Introduction to the didactic unit. Power point and flashcards to explain basketball vocabulary



and a reading to know basketball history.



2. General warm up using cards with pictures in pairs. Types of passing.



3. Basic rules. In small groups, explain these rules. Types of bouncing and shooting.



4. 3x3 Competition. Player's contract.



5. Circuit in pair using the skills adquires in the unit.



6. Assesment.


ACTIVITIES:

- Lesson 1: The teacher introduce the didactic unit showing a power point with the basic basketball



vocabulary. Then, play a "Mime game" in pairs, trying to remember these words.



Finally, the students read a text about basketball history and for homework, they must find the following



information:


a-Nationality of the person who invented basketball


b-His job.


c-The size of an official basketball court.


d-The weight of a basketball.


e-The number of overall players in a team.


f-The names of the main positions.


g-The most common shots.


h-The types of defense.


i-The main techniques.


- Lesson 2: In pairs, the students explain to their partners how to do a general warm up, using a secuence of cards with pictures and doing practical examples. Then, they practices different types of pass with activities and games.


- Lesson 3: In groups of three or four, they must to explain to the whole class, the main rules in basketball (the game, violations, fouls, sustitutions, time situations, contact between players, etc). They can use videos, posters or demonstration that must have prepared at home. Then, they practices different types of bounce and shoot.



- Lesson 4: Basquetball circuit. In group of four, two students do the circuit while the others write the score.


CIRCUIT:


1. Wait for the starting buzzer with the ball in your hands, and begin bouncing it with your left hand.


2. At the outside of each cone, pivot in the opposite direction and change the ball to the corresponding hand.


3. After passing the 5th cone, make a chest-level pass towards the circle on the wall and catch the ball as it bounces back to you.


4. Make two shots at the basket from the spots mark ed in front of the basket.


5. Bounce the ball in a zig-zag pattern, changing hands and making sure not to pass over the cones.


6. Run on top of the bench and bounce the ball on the floor.


7. Repeat Step 5.


8. Finally, make a shot at the basket


SCORING:

For every mistake made (for example: not changing hands or not passing the cones correctly) you add a second to your time. For every basket made, you are awarded with two seconds off your time.


- Lesson 5: The students are going to play a 3x3 competiton but firts they have to redact a "Player's contract" toguether. Each team proposes a rule for that contract and then everybody sing it.


- Lesson 6: To value the skills in basketball, we will use the circuit that the students have practiced in lesson number 4.
