The development of the unit will be:

Sesion 1: The Nile

à What does the student know?

'He who rides the sea of the Nile must have sails woven of patience.'

William Golding

The student will be asked to make pairs and make themselves questions about the quote, in order to know how much they know about the river Nile.

And then, they will have to share with the rest of the class what they know.

à New vocabulary. The teacher will write in the board a list of vocabulary  and definitions and they will have to match them.

à The teacher will give the students a text where they  can find information about the river Nile and with gaps that they will have to fill with the vocabulary given before.

à Finally they will have to answer some questions about the river Nile and in pairs they will have to make a poster where they reflect what they have learned.

Sesion 2: Pharaons

à Vocabulary. First of all the teacher will give a list of vocabulary and the students will have to look for the meanings of the words using the computers.

à Later they will be given a text with some bold words and a list of definitions that they will have to match.

à Using the text above they will make a summary of it in order to know if they have achieved its real meaning. When they finish they will read it to the rest of the class and they will be able to be asked short questions  about it.

à In order to situate the students, the teacher will show them a timeline of the Ancient Egypt. Using the timeline and some constructions given by the teacher  they will have to write sentences about Egypt

Sesion 3: Society

à https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DtHNjrECgI The students will see this video with subtitles in English where the structure of Ancient Egypt is explained.

à The class will be divided into eight groups: slaves, farmers, craftsman, scribes, soldiers, nobles, priests and viziers. In groups (3-4 people) imagine what life was like for each social group. Think about their occupations, social status, etc. They will answer some questions about it.

à Then they will write a short paragraph explaining the situation of their social group to the class.

Session 4: Death and Life in Ancient Egypt

à They will have a brain storming about death. With the words and ideas they have, make groups and they will discuss about this topic.

à They will read this article http://www.historymuseum.ca/cmc/exhibitions/civil/egypt/egcr04e.shtml about death in Ancient Egypt and they will have to take the main ideas of it.

à They will prepare a project about pyramids and mummies in Egypt surfing internet. The teacher will provide them some pages where to look for the information. It could be a powerpoint, but they will always have to explain to the class the information.
