PROYECTO FINAL FAMILY

The title of this unit is Family and the level it has been designed for is Primary 4. It is designed to take approximately 5 or 6 classes, depending on pupils' interest and assimilation. The activities have been grouped into 8 stages, it is expected that the unit can be covered in five to six sessions.

METHODOLOGY & ACTIVITIES:

Routine Activities: The pupils with my help put the weather and date on a poster.

1st stage: Check previous knowledge. These activities check pupils' previous knowledge and allow us to see how much need to be taught or revised. Pupils al o refresh each other's memories about items that may have slipped back into their passive memory store. a) Happy families b) Make a family tree c) Writing.

2nd stage: A) Present new vocabulary orally. These activities present the new language items. It is a controlled activity, as the aim as this stage is for pupils to have a model to copy as accurately as possible. Later the pupils can practice the language more freely A) Present new vocabulary orally a) Presentation and game: Who is it? I present the new vocabulary with flashcards. I show different family members and the pupils have to listen and repeat the vocabulary after me b) Song: 'The family at home'

B) Present new vocabulary in written form https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/sites/kids/files/attachment/worksheets-family.pdf

3rd stage: Practise new vocabulary, recycle familiar vocabulary & structures. These activities are designed to allow pupils to practice the new language in context. The pupils should be encouraged to use the new language as much as possible. a) Chant: Family members: I use it to present the new language in context. Pupils find it easy to remember and are often willing to practise it over and over again and do the actions at the same time. It is also good for working on pronunciation without realising it pupils naturally improve suprasegmental features by clapping and using the appropriate stress, rhythm and intonation b) Tongue Twister: https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/es/tongue-twisters/quick-kiss

Listen and find: I give the pupils a worksheet with different family members, they listen to some of them and have to point out which they are listen.

4th stage: Consolidate new vocabulary, present new structure orally. Pupils practice listening in a class group & and after in small groups. Story: I tell the pupils an adapted story called The enormous turnip and they see the language in context. Order the story: I give the pupils little cards about the story and in pairs, as a little competition, they should read the cards and put this in order. The first pair to finish will be the winner. Speaking: I ask the pupils about what family members that we have already seen in the story.

5th stage: Consolidate vocabulary, reinforce new structure, introducing written form.

a) Game: 'Describe your …' b) Read and write about a member of your family.

6th stage: Recycle new vocabulary, consolidate new structure & personalize new language. Pupils practice reading and writing individually. https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/es/short-stories/my-dad, https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/sites/kids/files/attachment/short-stories-my-dad-worksheet.pdf

7th stage: Free production of new language in creative activity. Pupils practice the four skills with this activity. Do a survey: I give them a survey with different questions about the family members. The pupils have to ask this to different partners in the class. Classroom display: when all the pupils have finish they discuss the information and they do a classroom display showing how are the families of the class, for example: 5 pupils have got sisters or brothers. Draw and describe your teacher.

8th stage: Check your progress, self-evaluation. Check yourself worksheet: pupils complete a mixture of short evaluation activities, similar to those done in class. I give them a worksheet in which they have to read and complete a text about different family members and their descriptions. Portfolio: The pupils draw and write about the teacher using the vocabulary they have learnt and the recycled vocabulary. After, this sheet is added to their portfolio of personalized work. Self-evaluation: pupils complete a chart which shows different aspects such as the four skills, pair works or sharing. They draw a green start if they have done excellent, they colour it yellow if they have done good and they colour it red if they think they have done ok but they could do it better.

PROJECT: Look at my world! Pupils change information with pupils from an English school about the topic of the unit and compare the differences and similarities of different families in other cultures.
