INTEGER NUMBERS

Title: Integer numbers

Course/ Level: 1º ESO

Subject: Mathematics


Introduction


An integer is defined as a number with no fractional part. In other words, we can count forward and backward using integers. Going from one integer to the next is a discrete jump of one unit, with no stopping part of the way there. Integers are the numbers we get from rounding fractional numbers up or down to the nearest whole. So, an integer is a whole number (not a fraction) that can be positive, negative, or zero. Therefore, the numbers 10, 0, -25, and 5 are all integers.

The set of integers is denoted Z and it is constituted by positive whole numbers, negative whole numbers, and zero.

Integers are important numbers in mathematics because they have many uses in real life.

Integers help in computing the efficiency in positive or negative numbers in almost every field, let us know the position where one is standing or they also help to calculate how more or less measures to be taken for achieving better results.

  • To identify the different types of numbers (natural, integer, fractional and decimals) and use them to adequately represent and interpret the information

  • To calculate the value of numeric expressions with integer numbers through elementary operations

  • To know absolute value and opposite of a Integer number.

  • To Know how to solve operations combined with integer numbers.

  • To solve problems from the real life using Integer numbers.

SESSION 1: Vocabulary practice


  • Work in pairs: Pronounce different numbers and characters

  • Listen to your teacher and repeat

  • Write a verbal phrase for each numerical expression


SESSION 2: What are integers?


  • First, we will detect the students' prior knowledge with questions such as:  - Do you know what the natural numbers are?  - Can you use natural numbers to express temperatures below zero?  - Do you know any situation where you have to use negative numbers?  - What kind of number is…?  
  • Second, students perform the video viewing:

  • Finally, We will encourage the participation of students in a debate about the video.

  1. ¡Enhorabuena Montaña, por tu excelente trabajo! Me parece una unidad sencilla pero rica en recursos y metodología AICLE, fácil de llevar a la práctica en cuanto nuestro centro sea bilingüe. Los recursos TIC son muy interesantes y todas las tareas apropiadas para nuestra materia y nivel.
