INVERTEBRATES

LESSON PLAN: INVERTEBRATES

1.INTRODUCTION

This lesson plan is designed for students of the third level of Primary Education. It will be developed in the area of Natural Science.The main purpose of this unit is that students will get familiar with the different characteristics of invertebrates. In order to do so, I will try to introduce visual contents.

2.OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of this units are the following

• To introduce the concept concept or vertebrate and invertebrate animals

• To understand the difference between hervibores, carnivores and omnivores.

• To identify the environment where animals live

• To classify invertebrates

To learn the different hábitats

3.CONTENTS

The main contents that are going to be introduced in this lesson plan are the following

-Types of animals according to their backbone

-Types of animals according to what they eat

-Different hábitats

-Classification of animals according to different criteria

4.KEY COMPETENCES

The seven key competences will be worked in an integrated way (linguistic competence in communication, mathematical competence in Science and Technohology , digital Competence, learning to learn, social and civic competence, cultural awareness and expression competences and the sense of Initiative and Entrepreneurship)

5.METHODOLOGY

I will try to develop the cooperative learning by using different grouping with my students. In the same way, the four linguistic skills will be worked paying attention to the natural approach. Thus, receptive skills will precede the productive ones. Moreover, all the activities will depart from my students' previous knowledge.

I have proposed two sessions in order to work on this topic. The activities can be summarized as follows

First Session

This session will begin with a warm-up activity. Here, students will think about all the names of animals they know in English. This brainstorming will be doing with the whole- class

In order to introduce the difference between vertebrates and invertebrates ,they will watch a video.

Then, students are shown some pictures (power- point) and they have to say if these animals are vertebrates or invertebrates. In order to increase their vocabulary, they have to say its name.

Once this concept has been understood, the new content will be introduced. So, pupils will learn the most important characteristics of invertebrates. It wil be done with the use of a power-point presentation.

The next activity will be an activity with the interactive whiteboard.

After it, a reading activity will be done. In the same way, some comprehension activities will be proposed

The sixth activity will be a game to practice the listening activity. They will listen the description of some animals and they have to guess what is the described animal.

The last activity in this session will be a writing to consolidate the contents.

Second Session

The first activity will be a game (hangman) to review the content of the previous session

Then, the content will be introduced with another power-point (more invertebrates)

The best way to consolidate the concept will be by using a video.

After watching this video, they will read a text and they will have to do some activities

In order to do the session more interactive, I will propose a game (picture dictation)

To finish this session, students have to describe some animals and do some activities related to the content of this lesson plan

  1. Fantástico trabajo. Aunque echo en falta la presencia de material para imprimir y facilitar el trabajo del docente que lo lleve a cabo.
