Unidad Aicle_Food



INTRODUCTION

This Didactic Unit is about FOOD for children of Primary in Second Year, the subject is Natural Science.

Educational environments provide a setting for important early experiences which help to develop children's enjoyment of food, their understanding of the social contexts within which eating takes place, and their ability to make informed, healthy choices as they grow into young adults.

The main OBJETIVES of this unit are:   

• Talk about healthy lifestyles.

• Know the origin of the different foods.

• Differentiate food of animal or plant origin.

 • Learn about the different food groups.

• Differentiate healthy foods from those that are not.

 

SESSION 1

-     Brainstorm about healthy and unhealthy food.

-     Video about fruit and vegetables.

-     Pass the flashcard. Ask pupils to stand in a circle. Tell pupils they are going to pass the flashcards round the circle. As they pass the flashcard they must say "I like" (cheese) or " I don´t like" (olives)

 SESSION 2

-Play Guess What's in the bad! Put one piece of fruit into each bag. Call a volunteer to come to the front of the class. Ask them to put their hand inside a bag and feel fruit. Ask them to guess the fruit. Repeat it with other volunteers.

- Ask pupils what their favorite fruit is. Do a simple tally on the board and put a tick next to the fruit pupils say is their favorite. Ask "Which fruit is the most popular?

 

 

 -     Make a healthy menu.

-     Mime eating a food. Ask pupils to guess what you are eating. Ask volunteers.

 

SESSION 3

-     Play alphabet food. Write the letters of the alphabet on the board with the pupils 'help. Put pupils into groups of three and ask them to think of a food for each letter of the alphabet.

-     Refresh session 3 and make a mural. Hold a food magazine and children have to find food with vitamins, proteins and energy.

 

 -Play Guess the word. Begin writing a word from today ́s class slowly. On letter at a time. Ask pupils to guess the word.

 

SESSION 4

-Draw a tree and a leafy plant in the soil, on one side of the board and write "plants" in green. On the other side of the board, write "animals" in red and draw a cow and a pig.

-Say some food come from… "Do apples come from animals or plants?"

-Carry on showing flashcard and see if they come from animals or plants.

-Tell each pupil to take out a red and green pencil. Name food items randomly. Pupils should hold up the green if the food comes from plants and the red if comes from animals. Encourage children to repeat words.

 

 





SESSION 5                                               

-Draw healthy snacks in the school bag.

 

 -Listen or read and the audio.

 

 -Say out loud different kind of food and ask them when they have for example "milk".

"For breakfast?",  "For lunch?", "For dinner?".

-Conversation about healthy habits

"How many time a day …..you brush your teeth?"

-Play Scrabble. Divide the class into small groups. Give each groups the same letters (making sure they can spell breakfast, lunch, dinner).

 

SESSION 6

-Game about fruit and vegetables

-Play Stand up if true. Ask pupils standing if it is healthy snack or not.

 -Ask pupils to say if their snacks are healthy of not very healthy.

CONCLUSION

The aim of the unit is to encourage the children with skills and find out what they already know about food. Very dynamic so children keep focused and learning at the same time they have fun which I think is our aim.

  1. Hola Patricia, la unidad didáctica creada es muy completa. Considero que cada una de las actividades está adaptada a la edad. Me parece muy importante las actividades en la que a los niños se le hace partícipes con la realización de murales puesto que, ahí se ve la involucración de ellos y la adquisición de los conocimientos. ¡Es muy atractiva!
