Title of the Unit: Solar System's Friends

Course / Level : 4th level-Primary Education

 

OBJECTIVES

TO DEVELOP INTEREST ABOUT THE UNIVERSE AND THE SPACE.

TO KNOW THE SOLAR SYSTEM STRUCTURE.

TO RECOGNIZE DIFERENT CELESTIAL BODIES AND TO DEFINE THEM.

TO UNDERSTAND ROTATION AND REVOLUTION MOVEMENTS.

TO DEVELOP OUTLINE AND SUMMARIZE TECHNIQUES.

ACTIVITIES

-A short and simple video to introduce the topic and present new concepts.

-Practice vocabulary and structures through flashcard games.

--Activity to order the planets in relation with the Sun.

-Worksheet about moon phases to complete at home.

 - Interactive activities to internalise concepts.

- Worksheet to establish relations between concepts.(movements/ events)

- Complete a model concept map to help the organization of contents.

-Final  review:  kahoot

-An extra or complementary activity: visit a small planetarium and watch the sky of the seasons.

 

SESSION 1

It is an introductory session in which the information is presented and, at the same time, previous knowledge about the topic is checking answering open questions in the whole class.

We use a video to motivate students and a worksheet to present information through a simple and concrete text.

SESSION 2

It is an eminent practice session with a higher power of motivation because it includes pair activities and games on line and whole group activities with flash cards in class.

SESSION 3

In this session we work individually to assimilate concepts and contents with several writing activities. In the same way, we work concepts in L2 such as ordinal numbers and superlatives.

SESSION 4

In this session we are going to focus on the Earth. We will know information and facts about it and practice with interesting activities. Interaction between teacher and students is very important in this class.

SESSION 5

In this session we work listening and speaking skills thought a funny song about the planets and some characteristics of them and using a language frame to produce oral speech.

SESSION 6

It is a session dedicated to the moon: its phases and other characteristics. In this class we are going to practice with multiple online activities: moon flashcards, listen, repeat, write, moon phases' matching game…

SESSION 7

FINAL TASK AND ASSESSMENT

We use this session for evaluacion itself. It includes:

FINAL EXPOSITION

In pairs, students should elaborate a mural about the solar system and its components using  different techniques such as drawing, crafting… present it and explain it to their classmates and teacher, showing a clear summary of the contents learning along the unit.

EXTRA ACTIVITY

"COSMO CAIXA PLANETARIUM" VISITS US!

Teachers can ask to borrow this resource to organize group's visits. We can take advantage of it not only for 4th level, but also for all the students in the school.

In order to imply families in the teaching-learning process, each student should complete this chart at home with the help of their relatives.
