HEALTHY HABITS

Physical Education. 3rd Grade Primary

We will analyze with students some current problems in our society in relation to our health (sedentary lifestyle, fast food, obesity…) because it is important students understand the difference between healthy and unhealthy habits and are aware of the influence of certain behaviors on their health.

This unit has the following learning outcomes:

1. To identify and appreciate healthy habits to prevent illnesses and behave responsibly.
2. To recognize and adopt good hygiene, correct postures, rest and exercise habits.
3. To know and explain the basic principles of a balanced diet.
4. To understand and apply basic rules of first aid in a simulation.
5. To practice coordination and balance.

This unit supposes coordination between Science and PE so some tasks will be worked in PE through games and exercises in order to firm up the learning.
Some tasks: Listen and repeat key vocabulary, ask and answer questions related to health and daily habits (rest, exercise, diet, hygiene, good posture…), discuss in pairs and groups, listen and sing a song, tell a story (yoga), mime actions and words, read the description of the games before playing.
We will use PE games to remember some habits in relation to sleep well, do some exercise every day, drink plenty of water, eat lots of fruit and vegetables, sit and stand properly, wash our hands before eat, use free time wisely, prevent some diseases and know and apply basic rules of first aid.

6 lessons of 1 hour. Each lesson is divided into three parts: warm up, main part and cool down.
