DU Title: Bending
|
The selected DU is part of the subject "Machining in Metal Construction" during the first course of Certificate of Higher Education in Metallic Construction.
The unit itself is simple due to several reason, but the most important are the lack of language studies in that Higher Education and the technical difficulties if the whole contents (bending referred) are considered. That is why the complete unit has been divided in several units. One of these units is the one we are developing now and we should explain the one that treats how to calculate "neutral line" length as a mandatory way of working.
At the end, students should distinguish the different parts of the press brake machine, two of the bending types and how to do a right plan of a bending process.
In order to do that, first class will consist in the unit explanation helped by a Powerpoint showing in the classroom.
Second session will be developed in workshops, next to the press brake, where parts will be identified, safe work procedures will be detailed, how to center the bottom die will be explained and shown and how to work using machine basic procedures.
Wiki resources will be consulted in the third class. After that, there will be a solving questions/doubts time using L2 language. This activity will be used as part of scaffolding needed in this unit. Besides, an interactive activity will be done as a clearing terms exercise.
Fourth and fifth classes will be used as bending training time. Once training time is over the student will make a prototype piece. That piece should be checked and measured in order to know if it is out of manufacturing tolerance or not. If it is out the whole process will be checked and analyzed to correct the procedures.
