CLIL didactic unit: Oral exploration

Course/Level: 1º Oral Hygiene

Subject: Exploration of the oral cavity

The main learning outcome of the present CLIL didactic unit is to performs the history and exploration of the oral cavity, identifying its characteristics. Therefore, the following objectives are proposed:                                   

·       To Know the ergonomic position of the hygienist and the placement of the patient during the exploration.

·       To simulate exploration techniques

·       To identify the necessary material for dental exploration.

·       To have a careful attitude during the exploration.           

The following activities are proposed to help achieve the above objectives.

SEASON 1: Dental hygiene (start-up activity)

-        Timing: 1 x 50 minutes

-        Material required: computers with Internet

-        Grouping: pairs

-        Focus on content: oral hygiene habits.

-        Focus on languages: reading a questionare, interpretation of the results, learn dentistry vocabulary.

-        Resources: online questionare:

SEASON 2 AND 3: Dental check-up

-        Timing: 2 x 50 minutes

-        Material required: paper, pen and dictionary.

-        Grouping: pairs

-        Focus on content: oral exploration of the patient.

-        Focus on languages: reading and interpretation of the text, learn dentistry vocabulary.

-        Resources: reading worksheet.

 

SEASON 4 AND 5: Dental materials and instruments

-          Timing: 2 x 50 minutes

-          Material required: paper, pen and dictionary.

-          Grouping: pairs

-          Focus on content: dental materials and instruments

-          Focus on languages: learn dentistry vocabulary.

-          Resources: vocabulary worksheet.

 

SEASON 6: Tooth

-          Timing: 1 x 50 minutes

-          Material required: paper, pen, colours and dictionary.

-          Grouping: pairs

-          Focus on content: intraoral exploration of the patient.

-          Focus on languages: learn dentistry vocabulary.

-          Resources: vocabulary worksheet.

 

SEASON 7 and 8: Dental medical history

-          Timing: 2 x 50 minutes

-          Material required: paper, pen and dictionary.

-          Grouping: pairs

-          Focus on content: oral exploration of the patient.

-          Focus on languages: learning dentistry vocabulary and grammar (present and past simple), and to practice speaking.

-          Resources: translation and reading worksheet

 

SEASON 9, 10 AND 11: Oral exploration (practical activity)

-          Timing: 3 x 50 minutes

-          Material required: dental chairs, stools and dental exploration instruments.

-          Grouping: small groups

-          Focus on content: oral exploration of the patient.

-          Focus on languages: speaking about the procedure to follow in an oral exploration and learn dentistry vocabulary.

-          Resources: a practical guide

 

SEASON 12 AND 13: Eggsperiment

-          Timing: 2 x 50 minutes

-          Material required: glass measurement cup, toothpaste, fresh eggs, table vinegar, plastic wrap, marker, clear nail polish, paper towel and teaspoon.

-          Grouping: small groups

-          Focus on content: oral exploration of the patient.

-          Focus on languages: understand the process of caries development and learn dentistry vocabulary.

-          Resources: a practical guide.

 

SEASON 14: Kahhot game (final activity)

-          Timing: 1 x 50 minutes

-          Material required: computers with Internet

-          Grouping: individual

-          Focus on content: oral exploration of the patient.

-          Focus on languages: reading about oral exploration and learn dentistry vocabulary.

-          Resources: Kahhot aplication

  1. Me ha parecido una unidad didáctica muy completa en cuanto a objetivos precisos, actividades y recursos para el nivel marcado. Por cierto, me ha encantado el eggsperiment como recurso para sintetizar lo aprendido de forma motivadora y atractiva. Gran trabajo. Un saludo.

  3. Felicidades por tu unidad está muy bien conseguida respecto a los principios de la metodología AICLE. Me parece que has integrado muy bien contenidos y lengua y la elección de las actividades es variada y atractiva.
